Frequently Asked Questions

We know that this process can be stressful on everyone involved, so here are some frequently asked questions in order to (hopefully) simplify the process a little. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact us.

Is Assisted Living right for my loved one?

Many people would benefit from additional care, while not quite needing Nursing Home level care. There are many services in the community that would improve quality of life while a person continued to live in their home, but Assisted Living Facilities provide all of those services while giving that person, and their family, peace of mind knowing that they are in a safe environment with staff to care for their needs 24/7.

At Showboat, we promote independence so that folks can continue to use the abilities that they have, for as long as possible; so we allow our residents to pick and choose from our services, with the comfort that we’re here when ever they need us, how ever much they need us.

So, if you, or a loved one, would benefit from a little bit of extra help, Assisted Living might be worth looking into.

What services do you provide?

  • Staff available 24 hours a day 7 days a week
  • 3 meals a day
  • Coffee and snacks available 24/7
  • Medication assistance
  • Assistance with bathing
  • Housekeeping services
  • Laundry services
  • Activities including crafts, parties, live music, bible studies, and more.
  • Assistance in scheduling doctors appointments
  • Reminders for doctors appointments
  • Private rooms
  • Wifi
  • Cable TV

How do I get started?

We recommend contacting a manager at Showboat Retirement Center by either filling out a Contact Us form or by calling 307-332-6788, and someone can walk you through the next steps in getting started.

A few things that can be done to speed up the process:

  • Making an appointment with your/their Primary Care Doctor and discussing additional care, so that when a referral is requested. the doctor is able to provide the necessary information in a timely manner.
  • Creating a list including your/their monthly income, and any monthly or annual expenses.
  • Deciding how rent will likely be paid. If the private pay rate (if the rate is too high to pay yourself), explore other options, you will find additional information below.

Does my loved one qualify (meet the necessary requirements for Assisted Living)?

As a Level 1 Assisted Living Facility, Showboat Retirement Center is a little more strict than a Nursing Home on the level of independence we require of our residents. Our residents must meet the following requirements:

  •  They must be able to walk by themselves, with or without the use of a cane, walker, or wheelchair.
  • They must be able to get in and out of bed, or chairs, without assistance from a person.
  • They must be able to dress and groom themselves appropriately with little assistance.
  • They must be on a regular diet as our facility does not currently employ a Registered Dietitian needed to do special or therapeutic diets. We can assist our residents in being mindful of sugar and salt intake, but they are largely responsible for monitoring what they eat.

How expensive is it?

Our rates begin at $3,500 but we know that many people cannot afford Assisted Living, so we try to be as flexible as possible, so feel free to contact us if you have questions about rates. If that seems well out of your ballpark, make sure to check insurance policies as they may include retirement insurance, or if not, possibly it is possible you/they qualify for additional services and supports such as the Medicaid Community Choice Waiver program, which would help pay a large portion of rent, making Assisted Living more affordable.

You can find more information on the Community Choice Waiver by going to their website by clicking here, or by looking at their fact sheet
